Here’s the most popular questions that we get asked
If you have a specific question, feel free to email us and we will get back to you. Book and Online AppointmentWhat age should my kids start to see a dentist?
Visiting the dentist for the first time is all about making kids feel comfortable. We love children being happy and excited to come and see us. It’s important that they experience the dentist before they see the negative images on TV or stories in the playground.
From the age of 3 years, it’s good to bring them along with you. They can have a ride in the chair, we’ll count their teeth and we’ll have a sneaky look for any early problems.
At the next visit, they can have a check-up. We’ll talk to them about good brushing and cleaning.
At around the age of 6, their permanent teeth start to come out so it’s very important to maintain regular check-ups from this time.
No lollies here. If your child has a baby tooth taken out by us, they’ll be rewarded with a Fairy Tooth Helper. They’re super cute, made locally and your kids will love them.
Of course, if you have a particular concern, please contact us whatever age your child is
Do I need to look after my teeth in a different way when I'm pregnant?
It’s important to look after your mouth when you’re pregnant. You share nutrition with your child so it’s worth thinking about what you eat.
Fluctuating hormones mean that your gums can become more inflamed. They’ll be prone to bleeding and swelling. Oral care becomes more important as severe, chronic gum infection has been linked to babies arriving prematurely.
Persistent vomiting can affect the enamel on your teeth.
The health of your baby’s mouth is linked to the health of you and your partner’s mouth. Dental bacteria is passed from parents to children. It’s important that you don’t put off coming to the dentist if you have a problem.
I'm getting older. How do I look after my teeth?
However, those in their 50s, 60s and beyond may not have had the best dentistry treatment when we were younger. There wasn’t the same level of technology and treatment advances as there are now.
Luckily, our teeth and gums don’t age with the rest of us and the old expression of being “long in the tooth” doesn’t have to apply to you. If you care for your teeth daily and follow
Good dental treatment is very important. Regular care is necessary. We have many patients that will keep their teeth for life.
How often should I come to the dentist?
How often someone needs to see the dentist depends on your dental history and how well you look after your teeth and gums.
If you have dental issues then it’s worth coming more often to maintain your dental health.
For most patients we recommend between 6 to 12 months between each visit.
How do I prevent gum disease?
There are other factors that can affect the health of your gums, such as genetics, smoking, stress, and diabetes.
We recommend the
What happens if I don’t clean my teeth enough?
There are hundreds of types of bacteria that live in your mouth. Sounds yukky doesn’t it? When you don’t brush, these nasties get to work and can cause tooth decay. If you miss
There’s no two ways about it. Keep on top of your daily teeth cleaning and have a
Should I use mouth rinse?
Mouthwash should be used as well as brushing and flossing to remove plaque. Don’t use it as an alternative to brushing as it’s not enough on its own.
A Mouth rinse, or mouth wash, is great for making your mouth feel fresh and medicated.
Some mouth rinse contains fluoride which helps prevent decay. Fluoride is also in toothpaste and is in tap water in Sydney.
An Antiseptic mouth rinse can help treat bad breath and gingivitis by tackling bacteria. However, frequent use can cause staining and affect the taste. It is safe to use but it’s better to avoid alcohol-based mouthwash.
We don’t recommend any mouthwash for children under 6 years old. Mouthwash needs to be spat out. Not all children feel confident in doing this. It’s much better that they learn to brush their teeth correctly.
I need my teeth fixed. Can I pay for the treatment off over time?
But, we know you may still need help so we have payment plans. We’ll let you know the exact costs when we see you. We can offer our patients the option of paying for their treatment over time.
Is it important to replace missing teeth?
Replacing missing teeth will certainly help give you a healthy mouth and a confident smile. It’s also important to replace missing teeth otherwise it can result in bone loss. This can age your face and could cause other teeth to become loose and possibly fall out.
Missing teeth provides a great place for tooth decay to grow. If you have a missing tooth the surrounding teeth become increasingly susceptible to decay. This could then result in them being lost too.

How safe are dental x-rays and do I need one?
The reality is that there is barely any radiation from having lots of x-rays least of all from having one or two dental x-rays.
X-ray examinations provide an important diagnostic tool that shows the condition of your teeth, gums, their roots, and your jaw placement.
X-Rays can help us work out if you have any disease that can cause problems with your teeth, gums or bone around the teeth, or any tooth decay, abscesses, and other abnormal growths.
They show the exact location of crowded teeth and they can pinpoint the location of cavities.
