Dental Hygiene
The cleaner your teeth are, the longer you keep them
Dental hygiene is the one thing you can do to keep your teeth and gums healthy and clean
Brushing and flossing techniques you can dramatically improve the condition of your teeth and gums.
As kids we are told over and over again to clean our teeth. For good reason. Good oral hygiene keeps your teeth clean and your breath fresh.
At Jacaranda Dental, our experienced Dental Hygienists are the best. They really know their business.
Air Flow | the most gentle and thorough clean ever
We use Airflow, the latest technology to do a pain free professional clean. It’s the most thorough and gentlest way to clean your teeth. You’re going to love it.
At Jacaranda Dental, we’re one of the only dentists in the Sutherland Shire area doing Airflow. And, we don’t charge anything extra than a scale and polish.
We’re proud to go above and beyond for our patients.
Be a teeth cleaning machine:
- Step 1: Brush twice a day. Electric toothbrushes are great. They get in
places other brushes can’t reach. Brush to the gum as this is where
plaque builds up. - Step 2: Floss between your teeth.
- Step 3: Mouthwash gives an extra boost to rid the nasties not reached by
brushing and flossing. - Step 4: Tongue Cleaning is more important than you may think so give it a
quick brush too. - Step 5: Hygienist Appointment is the only way to remove all the plaque
build-up. Nothing beats a professional clean every few months.
Airflow
Latest technology to a pain free professional clean
Airflow is new technology. It gives your teeth an extremely in-depth clean without any pain.
The best part – it doesn’t cost any more than a traditional clean.
Brushing and flossing twice daily goes a long way to getting rid of nasties and prevent long term problems like gum disease or tooth decay.
But, it’s just about impossible to brush away all the plaque. A professional clean goes the extra mile. It’s the cornerstone to a dream smile.
Patients from Caringbah, and other areas across Sutherland Shire, come to our dental practice specifically for the Airflow dental hygiene treatment.
What is Airflow?
Airflow is a game changer.
The deepest clean for your teeth and gums. It cleans and polishes in one go.
- Airflow is a new gentle, pain-free technique. Warm water and powder use pressure to wash away the nasties. There’s minimal sensitivity.
- It slows the regrowth of dental plaque and reduces the amount of plaque.
- As well as your natural teeth, it works with dental implants, bridges and braces, crowns and veneers.
- Airflow doesn’t use any brushes, sensitive instruments or metal
- There’ll always be plaque you’ll miss no matter how well you clean your teeth. Airflow reaches it all.
How does Airflow work?
You’ll love the Airflow technique. It’s so easy:
- We use a dye to stain your teeth. The dye is perfectly safe for anyone, any age.
- The dye stains the plaque and tartar on your teeth. It finds every nook and cranny where plaque builds up at the back of your mouth, inside or between the teeth.
- The darker the dye stain, the older the plaque.
- We then use Airflow jets of water and powder (pre-warmed to body temperature) to remove the dye, plaque and tartar.
- The water pressure cleans your teeth like they’ve never been cleaned before. And to the highest level of comfort and safety.
The other benefits of using Airflow
- Airflow is gentle on teeth as well as the tongue, cheeks and gums.
- It’s excellent to remove stains – better than a conventional scale and polish.
- You’ll see the evidence for yourself. It’s a great way to show your kids that they may not be cleaning their teeth as well as they think, or say! It could even make you realise you need to step up your teeth brushing game!
- It can be used with <fixed braces> and dental implants without removing them.
- After an Airflow clean, people often report their teeth feeling smoother and staying smoother for longer.
- Airflow is such an in-depth clean, it helps your oral health which could mean you can enjoy your natural teeth (and implants) for longer and it’ll help avoid dental treatments.
What is there not to love?
All our patients who’ve tried Airflow appreciate the difference. Over the last 12 months, we’ve noticed an improvement in the oral health of our patients. Win Win.
Angela | Dental Hygiene | Airflow
Angela had the new Airflow cleaning treatment instead of a traditional scale and polish. As soon as the dye was put on her teeth, she could see where the plaque was despite brushing teeth regularly.
The purple dye shows new plaque which is easily removed. The dark blue shows plaque that’s been there longer and could cause gum disease. The light blue shows plaque that can cause decay.
We cleaned all the plaque and dye off with the Airflow powder and water. We then gave Angela some tips with her brushing and flossing techniques. After Airflow, the plaque is easier to clean away. Angela was very happy with the result.

Our Dental Hygienists
During your dental hygiene appointment, our hygienists will check for signs of gum disease, bleeding and inflammation.
They’ll remove any plaque and advise you on ways to prevent build-up of plaque. They’re always happy to tell you everything there is to know about keeping your mouth healthy.
Attending regular dental hygiene appointments will help you extend the life of your teeth and have fresh breath and a whiter smile.
The mouth is the main breeding ground for bacteria to get into our bodies. We have natural defences in our saliva to fight against it but keeping gums and teeth healthy is crucial.
