Having confidence in your smile can really boost your self-esteem.
You may want braces if you have:
- Gaps in your teeth
- Sticky out teeth
- Crowded teeth
- Misaligned teeth
Teeth-straightening is not just about your appearance. It can be about the way you bite and chew, and how easy it is to clean them.
Your natural teeth are the only ones you have so look after them well.
Every day we see patients who want their teeth straightened to smile more confidently.
Thanks to modern technology, there’s plenty of treatments available. From braces, invisible aligners like Invisalign, surgery for extreme cases and even DIY options for very mild cases.
Fixed braces are the most common type. They’re usually made from silver-coloured metal (stainless steel). You can have colours added or have tooth-coloured material so they don’t show as much. They’re usually fitted to the outside of the teeth but there are braces that can be fitted to the back of the teeth too.
Aligners are made from clear plastic and are becoming very popular. They’re removable and look like a transparent mouthguard that straighten the teeth gradually.
At Jacaranda Dental we often use Invisalign® because it’s extremely effective while being discreet and more comfortable than fixed braces.
Dentistry is always evolving with new techniques so it’s a good idea to chat with your dentist before deciding on the best option for you.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is probably the most advanced clear alignment system. It’s the original and most utilised system worldwide. Over 6 million people have had Invisalign treatment.
Invisalign is used to straighten your teeth or correct other issues such as overcrowding in the mouth.
They’re effective for nearly all orthodontic problems. Talk it through with your dentist to see what’ll work best for you.
Are they really invisible?
They’re not totally invisible but they’re clear and a discreet option. They’re transparent, removable pieces of plastic that fit over your teeth. Most people won’t know you’re straightening your teeth as the aligner will be invisible to others.
Wondering if Invisalign braces are right for you?
Invisalign is increasingly popular with teenagers, young adults as well as with older adults.
The aligners are made specifically for you and uses pressure points to gradually push your teeth back into their correct position. It’s a revolutionary treatment that’s usually more comfortable than conventional metal braces.
Your Invisalign treatment
If you’re looking for Invisalign in Sutherland shire, Sydney, we offer informative, no obligation, non-committal consultations with our experienced dentist. We do this to work out exactly what needs to be done and to let you know what you can expect the costs and the results to be.
We then create unique 3D scans of your mouth. These are sent off and moulded into a series of aligners made specifically for you. It’s made to fit the contours of your mouth perfectly.
You’ll use a series of these retainers to gradually move your teeth into place. Each aligner is worn for a week or so until your teeth have aligned.
You need to wear the retainer for at least 22 hours a day to make sure you get the results you’re after. You can take them out for eating, drinking and cleaning your teeth.
Will you experience pain?
The aligners place pressure on your teeth to move them gently into their new position so they’ll probably feel tender at some point.
Could I use the DIY option of clear aligners?
You should only consider the DIY option of clear aligners for very mild cases. They’re a lower cost and can appear to be more convenient but there can be risks too.
DIY options are relatively new to Australia but have been used in the United States for several years. Like all things, there are some successful cases but there are some cases that are unsuccessful.
It’s a good idea to see your dentist, as there are things to consider when straightening teeth. For example, if you have crowded or crooked teeth, an aligner could force your other teeth to jut out, or, if you have gum problems, an aligner could loosen your teeth.
Having incorrectly fitted aligners can lead to jaw problems or damage to your teeth and gums, which will cost more in the long run.
You wouldn’t necessarily be aware if something started to go wrong. By the time you notice, it could end up costing much more in treatment to correct any problem.
Teeth straightening is a complex dental procedure. It requires a correct assessment at the beginning and ongoing supervision, just like any other healthcare procedure.
So, while Invisalign treatment is very simple for the patient, it pays to have a dental professional check your oral health first and be there to keep an eye on progress. They’ll be able to nip any issues in the bud should they arise.
3 reasons Invisalign Aligners are so popular:
- Treatment is quick
Invisalign is the quickest way to straighten teeth. Treatment can be finished in as little as a few months, however it depends on the complexity of your dental needs and whether the treatment is suitable for you.
Most Invisalign treatment is completed within a year. This can be much quicker than some conventional orthodontic treatments
- It fits into your lifestyle.
Because the aligners are removable, there is no restriction on what you can eat and drink, and you can take them out to clean your teeth more easily than traditional braces.
- Invisible braces
It’ll be difficult for most people to tell you’re wearing Invisalign braces because they’re almost invisible. No need to feel self-conscious.
At Jacaranda, we provide a comprehensive service that’s second to none. We’ve had training in the Invisalign technique and can talk you through the best options.
